Film Treatment

7 KEY INGREDIENTS:

1. A Strong Title

The title should be unique, memorable, and reflective of the story’s tone and theme.

A great title sets expectations and grabs attention immediately.

2. A Logline

A one- or two-sentence summary that captures the essence of the film.

It should highlight the protagonist, goal, conflict, and stakes while being intriguing.

Example: “A timid hobbit sets out on a perilous journey to destroy a powerful ring before            it falls into the hands of an evil dark lord.” (The Lord of the Rings)

3. A Strong Opening

The beginning should immediately hook the reader and introduce the world, protagonist,            and tone.

It should set up the main conflict or question that drives the story forward.

4. Three-Act Structure

The treatment should follow the classic beginning (setup), middle (confrontation), and                 end (resolution) structure.

         Key moments include:

Inciting Incident (what starts the protagonist’s journey)

Midpoint Twist (a major development that raises the stakes)

         Climax (the final, decisive moment)

5. Character Arcs

The protagonist (and key characters) should go through growth and transformation                       throughout the story.

Their motivations, flaws, and evolution should be clear.

A strong treatment conveys why we should care about the characters.

6. Clear Tone and Genre

The treatment should reflect the tone, style, and genre of the film (e.g., comedy, horror,                  action).

Readers should immediately get a sense of the atmosphere and emotional impact of the                story.

7. A Satisfying Ending

The resolution should pay off the story’s setup and themes, providing closure.

It can be happy, tragic, or ambiguous, but it should feel earned and impactful.

A well-written treatment helps sell the script by making the story feel clear, engaging,                   and  cinematic.
