SALES STRATEGY

Sales agents for film-ready packages are specialized companies or individuals who help producers sell the rights to their films to distributors, broadcasters, and platforms around the world.

🎥 1. Who Are the Sales Agents for Film-Ready Packages?

Sales agents represent films that are either completed or nearly completed (with screeners, key art, etc.). Some well-known international sales agents include:

Top Sales Agencies (International)

  • Film Nation

  • Memento Films International

  • Wild Bunch International

  • The Match Factory

  • XYZ Films

  • Bankside Films

  • Visit Films

  • Voltage Pictures

  • Magnolia Pictures International

  • Cinetic Media

Genre-Focused or Indie Agencies

  • AMP International (UK – genre and indie films)

  • Devil works (horror/thriller)

  • Jinga Films (horror/genre)

  • Arclight Films (genre and action films)

  • Blue Fox Entertainment

  • The Film Sales Company (U.S.-based)

Many of these agents are at markets like Cannes, EFM (Berlin), AFM, TIFF, and Sundance.

💰 2. Sales Agents

Sales agents work under different models:

  • Commission-Only: They earn a percentage of sales revenue (more common with reputable, finished films).

  • Commission + Expenses: They take commission and deduct costs (marketing, travel, deliverables, etc.) from sales.

  • Minimum Guarantee (MG) Model: Rarer these days unless it's a high-profile film.

A first-time filmmaker or have a lower-budget indie film, it’s more likely the agent will want:

  • Commission + expenses

  • OR require you to cover market expenses upfront (e.g., AFM booth, EFM screening fees)

📦 4. What Sales Collateral Does a Sales Agent Need?

Here’s what sales agents typically expect for a film-ready package:

Required Sales Collateral:

  1. Completed Film (or Final Cut/Screener)

  2. Trailer / Teaser (90–150 seconds)

  3. Poster & Key Art (print-ready, high resolution)

  4. Synopsis (Short and Long)

  5. Cast & Crew Bios (especially for recognizable names)

  6. Director's Statement / Vision

  7. Production Stills

  8. Festival Strategy or History (if applicable)

  9. Budget / Finance Plan / Recoupment Waterfall (optional but useful)

  10. Chain of Title & Rights Clearance Documents

  11. Delivery Schedule & Tech Specs (ProRes/DCP/VOD packages)

✅ Tips Before Approaching Sales Agents:

  • Have a Clean Rights Position: Make sure no one else is repping the film or claiming territory rights.

  • Tailor Your Approach: Target agents who have repped similar films in tone/budget/cast.

  • Check Track Record: Ask what markets they attend, what films they’ve sold recently, and what territories they specialize in.
